Widely recognised as one of the world's great riesling producers, Mitchell Wines is a small family owned winery in the Clare Valley, South Australia. From their mature, dry grown vineyards the family produces an exclusive range of high quality table wines. As well as the riesling, they craft intensely flavoured, well structured, long living reds from Shiraz, Cabernet and Grenache.
A family owned and run winery, cellar door and cafe with probably the best views in the valley.
Located in the Polish Hill river on the side of a hill overlooking the rolling hills and vineyards almost to the horizon, they have over 30 years of Riesling to boast about.
Very worth a visit.
Prepare to be offended. And amused.
Mark Barry, aka Mad Bastard, is one of the must visit cellar doors for those who like a good laugh (and are flexible about language precision). The winery has recently the trophy at the Clare Wine Show for the best dry blend for their Mataro "fat Boy", and other of their wines are definitely to be sampled. Do not miss out out on this experience!
And watch for the "woos" and "wabbits" as you make your way down their driveway.

Shut the Gate is a brilliant cellar door on the main road just south of the caraven park. Definitely not to be missed for those who enjoy a long grazing lunch that you can put together yourself from the selection of smallgoods available in the fridges, and wash it down in a glass or few of their brilliant wines.
The fabulously stylish cellar door, large private tasting room, cosy outdoor area will make you want to stay there for hours and hours.

Located on the southern side of the Clare township, just a few hundred metres from the main road, Stonebridge wines is a must-visit location for those who enjoy sitting back and indulging without a rush.

The first Australian winery to produce handcrafted wine and beer on site, Knappstein Enterprise Winery is located in South Australia’s Clare Valley. As one of the most recognisable and popular Clare Valley wineries, Knappstein’s award-winning wines reflect the true nature of the region, showcasing quality fruit at its purist and most vibrant. Sadly, the Knappstein Brewery has ceased operations, but the winery lives on.
